How to Get Your Parents to Say "Yes"

Have you ever wanted something real bad but the problem is you can't get your parents to let you have it? It's as if they are the only people who get in your way of letting you get what you want. But believe it or not, there are ways of getting your parents to say "yes" to what you want. By talking to your mother and father about it, telling them why you believe you should have this, and doing good things, it's most likely you'll get it.
Now a days most kids and teens don't actually sit down to have a conversation with their parents that will last longer than about ten minutes. Well, if there's something you want, how will your parents even know exactly what it is if you don't talk to them about it? Trust me, just "telling" them won't work. First of all, your parents need to know what you want so they can at least think about letting you have it. You have to tell them both the negative and positive things there are in what it is you desire. Anyway, it’s best to tell them now, especially the negative things because if they decide on letting you get what you want and later find out that there was a not so good side to it, they might not want to let you have what you want again. I remember when I wanted to go to my very first Backstreet Boys concert. I sat down and told my parents the good and bad things that would be included if they decided to let me go. The good things being that I'd enjoy myself and see a music group that I absolutely love. The bad things being that the tickets would be a bit expensive and the arena would be crowded with fans. Remember that parents always feel they need to know it all since they want to know it all.
Even though talking to your parents about what you want is important, it isn't always enough. It's good to tell them WHY you believe you should have what you want. Of course you have a reason as to why you want this, so let them know about it. It never hurts to also bring up the good things you've done lately. When I wanted those concert tickets, I reminded my parents about the good grades I had received on my latest tests and how I had stayed home to baby-sit my sister for free for the whole past month. I know that most likely you've done things like this, so why not bring it up? The main reason as to why it's good to tell your parents why you believe you should get what you want is because this way they'll be able to see your point of view. They'll understand how important it is to you that you get whatever it is you want. But, don't think that talking to your parents and telling them why you believe you should have what you want will automatically get them to say yes. It takes a little more.
It usually takes anywhere from minutes to days for parents to make a "yes" or "no" decision. So, in the meantime, do positive things that will make them smile. Even though parents always like to think well of their children, doing good things will give them a reason to make them think even better of you, especially in a time like this. If you've done a few things that have made your parents upset recently, doing good things usually makes up for them. Just try being extra helpful and extra generous. You can help around the house or help with anything else. And give compliments such as, "Wow mom, you look ten years younger today." It always works with my mom! Even though parents do remember the not-so-good things you've done, they also remember the good and will consider both in making their decision.
Using this method of getting your parents to let you have what you want is a very good one. To be honest, it won't always work because it does depend on what you want you parents to let you have. But talking to them, telling them why you believe you should have this, and doing good things will certainly work better than just telling your parents what you want. Most of the time you'll get it. Hey, I got what I wanted, to go to my first Backstreet Boys concert, and I had a great time! So try this the next time you really want something. You've got nothing to lose.
